Better Money

Technology has evolved enough for a better form of money. The currency of choice should be the natural numbers in a fixed range. A history of their ownership can be held centrally and updated at the point of exchange, where money numbers are exchanged for goods and services. The range is wide enough so that the total wealth of the nation can be divided into convenient sized units. The range can be adjusted as needed by adjusting every account so that all remain in proportion.
This scheme addresses a number of issues:
First, the natural numbers in a range are a finite commodity. This makes changes to the money supply that cause many problems, such as inflation, easier to control and more visible.
Second, the ability to immediately check the record of ownership prevents forgery.
Third, history of ownership simplifies unwinding transactions.
Fourth, confidence in future and high value transactions can be improved through a government controlled money mediation service. Such a service does not change the ownership of money, but guarantees its availability by reserving it, and may enforce exchange at a future date or on some other trigger.
Fifth, fraud is much easier to trace.
Sixth, the residual value of private banking services becomes transparent to government, allowing it to monitor the health of banks and ensure they meet requirements.

Membership of the European Union

While membership of the European Union supposedly has advantages, it is very expensive and corrupt.
Europe is a poorly constructed organisation, so a careful assessment of the merits of its membership needs to be undertaken.
Regardless of the findings of that assessment, it is probable that a new international organisation could be created along the lines of Expert Government. This should be pursued with other countries disenchanted by the failings of the European Union.
